The Integrative Therapy Model involves selecting models and methods from across orientations to best suit a particular client and context.
Attachment - Focused Counseling goals are to address the limiting effects of negative early attachment experiences and to strengthen the capacity for secure relationships and adaptive actions in the world, by creating a secure, authentic connection between the therapist and the client as a model.
Social Justice Counseling is the next step toward alleviating the injustices faced by individuals in society, particularly marginalized and oppressed groups, by addressing issues of social class, race and ethnicity, and more, and the impacts of those factors on ones mental health.
Feminist Theory Counseling is derived from the realities that lie outside the visions of the dominant patriarchal mainstream. It is a theory that not only listens to but privileges the voices and experiences of those who have been defined as “other” by dominant cultures.
Relational Counseling indicates we are all human. It starts with the assumption that therapists inevitably influence the phenomenon they are observing through their own participation in the relational field. Client and therapist are always influencing one another in both conscious and unconscious ways, as with any other relationship.
Somatic Counseling is used to release traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma. It offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
Bibliotherapy is a creative arts therapy which includes the use of both fiction and nonfiction works and storytelling into the healing process. Bibliotherapy is often used collaboratively with Written Exposure Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
