FAQ

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a term used interchangeably with counseling and therapy. According to the American Counseling Association, “Professional counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.” Erica Carulli, PLLC believes that psychotherapy also includes the dynamic process of change and growth of an individual.

What is the purpose of Psychotherapy?

Often, people attend psychotherapy to help address issues in their lives that are bothersome. Psychotherapists can help a client gain necessary insight into their lives. Psychotherapists can also help facilitate the next stage of growth.

How long does Psychotherapy last?

Psychotherapy is a personal experience, therefore, there is no set duration. This is typically determined by the psychotherapist and the client together, depending on the particular and individual needs of the client.

How long do Psychotherapy sessions last?

Our clients can expect to meet with their psychotherapist on a weekly basis. After some time, a psychotherapist and a client may determine their need for sessions has reduced, and can begin a different schedule, such as every other week or once per month. Typically, an intake session (the first time you meet) will last longer, roughly 90 minutes. Subsequent sessions are shorter, lasting roughly 60 minutes.

When can I expect to see results?

Beginning at the very first session, clients report things such as improved mood and hope for the future. Sometimes though, healing can be messy, and feel painful at first. Every person is different; our histories, biology, presenting issues; therefore, healing will be highly individualistic.

Does Erica Carulli, PLLC accept insurance?

Yes. Erica Carulli, PLLC accepts commercial insurance plans including BCBS and BCN, United Health Care and Aetna for individual sessions only. We ask that you call your  provider and determine your coverage; copay, co-insurance and deductible, prior to any scheduled appointments. Erica Carulli, PLLC will bill you directly any balance left on your account that the insurance doesn't pay in full. It will be your responsibility to follow up with your insurance company if you believe a service(s) should have been covered. Please understand your benefits thoroughly.

How much does Psychotherapy cost?

Our fees are competitive. An individual intake session fee is $175, subsequent sessions are $150. My consultation fee is $100 per hour (minimum of 1 hour required) for any requested letters, notes and/or completion of paperwork. Reduced fee may be available. (Please inquire about availability and requirements). Couples session fees are as follows: intake session fee is $200 and $175 for subsequent sessions.

What about confidentiality?

Legally, what you tell your psychotherapist in session remains confidential. There are some exclusions to be aware of, and are as follows:

  1. If a client threatens or attempts to commit suicide or otherwise conducts him/her self in a manner in which there is a substantial risk of incurring serious bodily harm.
  2. If a client threatens grave bodily harm or death to another person.
  3. If the therapist has a reasonable suspicion that a client or other named victim is the perpetrator, observer of, or actual victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse of children under the age of 18 years.
  4. Suspicions as stated above in the case of an elderly person who may be subjected to these abuses.
  5. Suspected neglect of the parties named in items #3 and # 4.
  6. If a court of law issues a legitimate subpoena for information stated on the subpoena.
  7. If a client is in therapy or being treated by order of a court of law, or if information is obtained for the purpose of rendering an expert’s report to an attorney.
